The Story:
For Memorial Day Weekend (2002), we took off to the Great White North with our partners in crime, shortylove. Shortylove, aka Brett and Melissa, were able to score some good prices through their work on a swanky hotel on the main drag, Robson Street, in Vancouver B.C.
The bulk of the first day was a spent at the border (huge lines after Sept. 11th!) and eating in Richmond. There is a huge Cantonese population in Richmond so we went straight to a Dim Sum place Megan had heard about. Great Dim Sum that was made-to-order. After we finally arrived in Vancouver, we did the requisite shopping/eating/drinking on Robson and around downtown. The next day was a fun trip to Victoria via ferry. Victoria's beautiful but the group was already craving the hustle and bustle of the big city so we returned to Vancouver (after ironically witnessing a knife threat on the mean streets of Tan Pan Alley in Victoria!).
Back in Vancouver, it was straight to a Cuban bar for the Canadian specialty: Caesars. Brett was actually the only one who sampled the Double Caesar: Vodka, Celery, Salt, and Clamato. It's very much like a Bloody Mary except, instead of tomato juice, it is made with the spicy clam-and-tomato Clamato juice to give it a little seafood kick. Good stuff and kudos to Brett for ordering 4 of 'em.
The next day was a Vancouver tourist wrap-up: Gastown, Chinatown (the second largest concentrated Chinese population in North America), and Stanley Park. Then through the border and home again.
