The Story:
We decided to build a raised bed garden in the backyard. To be quite honest, Megan came up with the idea and had to persuade Dave it would be fun. He didn't realize that, in Seattle, you can grow veggies all year long.
Megan read up on Maritime Gardening and we were ready. The great things about raised bed gardens, as opposed to the in-the-ground gardens, are: raised beds stay warmer in the winter and, because you control the type of dirt and substances that get added, you can have a pretty big influence on your ecosystem. Consequently, our little garden was destined to be all organic and pesticide/herbicide free.
